Choosing a plasticizer: DOP, DINP, DOTP or DPHP

This guide covers part of our wider range beyond polyurethane. Plasticizers do one essential job: they sit between polymer chains and let them slide, turning rigid PVC into something flexible. The four we supply — DOP, DINP, DOTP and DPHP — are not interchangeable, and choosing well means matching the molecule to how the product is made and used.

DOP — the benchmark

Dioctyl phthalate is the general-purpose standard: the best balance of cost and performance, easy to mix with PVC, with stable electrical properties. The default for cables, footwear, hoses and general film.

DINP — when permanence matters

Diisononyl phthalate is heavier and more durable — less volatile, better at aging and weathering — so it suits automotive interiors, flooring, coated fabrics and outdoor PVC.

DOTP — the non-phthalate route

Dioctyl terephthalate is the choice where regulation or perception rules phthalates out, bringing low migration and excellent thermal stability for sensitive and non-phthalate-required products.

DPHP — for heat and longevity

Di(2-propylheptyl) phthalate is the premium performer for high-temperature processing and long-life products such as industrial cables and roofing membranes.

A simple framework

Phthalates not acceptable? DOTP. Heat or long life needed? DPHP. Durability at moderate cost? DINP. Otherwise DOP gives the most performance per rupee. See our plasticizer range.
